Most jobs used to pay full medical/dental too, which still sucks that our healthcare is tied into our job ~ ahem slavery! ~ My employer keeps trying to BS me into working more time than I claim too. "Can you do me a favor?" .......is this a work task type of favor lol...

I think one of the issues is people expecting the economy to accommodate them, and have a job available. But I think if we prioritized useful skills in schools, not only would we be more self sufficient, big box stores and fast food places would dry up and die.
