Transgender Chili’s manager fired over ‘personal values and lifestyle,’ lawsuit says.

we have to stop letting corporations tell us they have values and beliefs
But they do? They value money and believe that money > human life.
Every American corporation should be broken up into 10-20 smaller companies.
Exactly
More reason why workers rights need to be stronger. The personal values and lifestyle of a person shouldn’t matter in a work environment in the slightest.
Getting that off the ground is a really tough sell legally I would imagine. Like politically, I can’t imagine justifying being fired for being Democrat or republican for example but can easily imagine someone being fired for making it known by their speech, wardrobe and other ...
I’m sorry but I sort of disagree here. If my employee was a Nazi at home and I didn’t know but found out later I would want him gone. So yes values do matter. It’s just the ones from the trans person don’t matter to you(me either) so they don’t bother you. But ya personal inte...
It 100% matters, whether it's B2B or B2C. I didn't make the earth turn the way it does. I'm simply reporting reality.
I don't know how to further boycott a business I haven't been to in 20 years
Best thing you can do is convince people you know to not go there.
I’m not sure I would eat there for free. I can microwave my own slop.
Its mostly frozen food from Sysco lol
Pretty sure that's grounds to sue for discrimination
In Illinois it definitely is
Not sure it’s a protected class yet
In this administration? lol
"She didn't have enough flair"
‘personal values and lifestyle,’ is code for transgender. Sex, including gender expression, is protected from employment discrimination under US law.
Why did they hire them in the first place?
Article says the worker didn’t disclose they are trans. Once that fact was learned by the employer they moved to fire them. The fired worker must of passed enough and rightly so stated they are under no obligation to out themselves for a job unless they want to.
Wow. Well, Chili’s is now a solid **NO GO** for us. Sucks, because the only other options in Alamogordo are horrible
Discrimination lawsuit incoming.
IT'S IN THE FUCKING TITLE
I dont like defending souless corpos but this is most likely some dip stick manager or DM being a dip stick. If a corpo wants to fire you over your "values" they are going to terminate you because "the company no longer wishes to employ you" (at will employment) But hey if th...
One more chain I will no longer patronize. Nice to narrow down the list. EDIT: Took out a comment made in error due to my brain-dead reading & comprehension skills today.
I shall continue to not eat at Chili’s
I would say I would boycott Chili's, but I have not been inside one in decades and probably never will be again. They literally microwave food from a plastic bag and slop it down in front of you. How are they still in business at all?
Worked in a Chilis for 5 years. The only thing they microwave is the molten cake and pasta noodles. The food is mostly fine. Their values and corporate practices, however, are not.
That's funny cuz my manager also has a personal lifestyle that doesn't fit with company values. My manager is rich, so they're often gone to take care of vacation homes or tending to their horses. Their uncle owns a business consulting firm and they sometimes do work for him.
If it was about personal values and lifestyle, they'd be firing 95% of the back of house staff.
Chefs are sketchy asf. Granted, I’ve only worked in two kitchens, but both times were under really bizarre guys who dealt drugs on the clock, drank all night, and were just morally dubious in general.
I read it as “trans chili’s manager fried”
I was an EXPAT in Bangkok for over ten years, I hired many trans individuals. I base my hiring philosophy on the person, attitude and skills. The trans people caused me less pain than others in my office. Nobody cared or even talked about what sexuallity these people were/...
It’s a fucking Chili’s neither of us are at a high point in our lives
As long as a person is doing nothing to harm others. What they do in their own home is their own damn business. I hope you get a ton of money from Chili’s.
We don’t know if they did or not. That’s the point of having a suit.
Chili's has a terrible reputation in the industry in my area. I've known a lot of people who've worked there, and it's always the same thing. The people who enjoy it and stick around tend to be assholes. Terrible company.
Well, chilis is a place I will never give money to again! The trash just takes itself out
Corporations don’t have rights. A corporation is not not even a human.
Under the law corporations are worth a lot more than a human. One could say that they are more human than human
You do know that 99% of them are franchises, yes? Its not Chili's thats doing this.
Yeah I suspect it's a local franchise and not corporate doing this. I like chilli's they are cheaper than fast food now and much better. I won't be going to this franchise in Chicagoland though!
Why were they hired if this was an issue?
So, IMHO, Chilis decided to join the Target, et al. Boycott crew. SMH. FYI, I do not fit in any LGBTQ+ etc. category. 72 years old, so, boomer. I’ve known so many in my life that fit in one or another or a rich mix of all “categories”, “races” (totally discredited science a...
All the more reason to continue never darkening the door of a Chilis in my life.
People still go to chili's?
How do I boycott MORE???
Fuck Chilli's for this, sure. Question. Why does anyone eat at a place like this? Its all microwaved trash. Ive gotten pulled into a few post work or work lunch functions that make these places "necessary". But outside of that, you can crush a better quality of apps/booze at...
Welp. Never eating there again.
Welp no more Chili's for me. People are amazingly overly concerned about something that doesn't do any harm to anyone.
Shall we all avoid this place because we have "personal values" that don't include hate, and my lifestyle includes spending my money elsewhere.
"Why won't the younger generations eat out at chain restaurants anymore!? Don't they know how fun and family friendly we are?! We're going to have to close down more stores and it's their fault!" -Chili's, probably soon.
This is why we need unions
Eh. The triple dipper wasnt tht good.

Transgender Chilis needs to be a meme tbh
And just like that chili's goes on permanent blackout
Isn’t this discrimination? Shouldn’t this location be getting sued into oblivion for violating that workers rights?
Not chili's dang right when they were on a upswing with their prices. Oh well I can eat cheap mid quality food elsewhere I guess.
I come from a super everything-phobic religious family so stuff like this makes me super upset to hear. I hate to bash religion but that's literally someone's livelihood being thrown away over religious fundamentalism and that should not be a thing.
1984 is…. (Checks calendar) now
That's just discrimination man
I just wanna know the whole story cause this sounds so vague from both parties, so the plantif claims they were let go from the company because of values, but they don't state any time they were told this idk lemme see the full story if there in the wrong easy law suit if ther...
The manager apparently admitted to saying it and said a different chilis nearby was about to fire someone for the same reason. So I’m looking more at the manager sideways but I know managers represent the company so I’d hate to be chilis rn
I got a strange feeling that somehow, Henry Ford approves this lawsuit /s
I forgot Chili's still existed
The US is really in another world of fucked up level....
Dude I need to make a SQL database for all these companies I need to explicitly not do business with ever.
Will be giving this chilis a few calls, thanks for the info
I'm waiting for the NYTimes version where the story is "Chili's bravely fires employee for harming company culture." /s
Doubtful they will hire anyone at chilis. More likely just a shitty worker. But I’m sure the case and time will tell.
That's messed up. Asking for gender-neutral pronouns (like they/them, per the story) to be used seems like a reasonable accommodation to request and should be granted. Has this ever been tested in court? I know that whenever someone has gone to court because someone wouldn'...
chilis can go out of business too then
It's not you, it's me
I'm just really confused why a transgender man is using they/them pronouns.
Won’t go anywhere if it was at-will employment. Personal values and lifestyle are not protected classes.
I don’t know why the phrase “if it was at will employment” is so common. Over 99.7% of the US population live in at-will states.
The article literally states that gender identity *is* a protected class, are you just ignorant or full on stupid?
Had they just not given a reason, I’d agree. But the stated reason plus some other evidence of motive would be a decent case.
