With SAVE dead, will we have to spend this month?

How long do we have unI learned we are kicked off and have to go to a standard plan? I am running short on cash this month and will be unable to fork over until April.

There is no set timing yet. We have to wait to hear from the department of ed about their plan to transition SAVE borrowers to something else.

Will they give us a heads up before just throwing us into standard repayment??

They have no idea what they are doing and fired so many people, this is getting pushed off to the next administration. Lmfao. They will have to force me off SAVE and move my loans themselves— I’m not doing shit.

I think a high probability is they will come out and say borrowers have until formation of RAP to switch to desired plan, after that all remaining SAVE borrowers will auto switch into RAP

I believe they're technically legally required to give us a 30 day warning so the absolute earliest we'd owe is 4/13 but this is about to be a huge mess because they're so understaffed and there are so many people on SAVE that I suspect we'll have awhile before we see a due date.

No one knows the exact date, but no, its not this month. The logistics involved will push the actual date most likely into 2027.

I said this a couple days ago and my post got deleted for speculation. The DOEd has to publish guidelines, get approval, open IDR processing which they are at least a mil backlog then add in 6 mil more. So I was thinking fall earliest but hoing for 1st or 2nd qtr 2027.

I’m hoping for this bc I took a gamble and filed taxes jointly with my wife, thinking the court battles would drag on another year, and later that same day is when the news dropped that SAVE is officially dead 😭 I need to dodge payments until I can file taxes MFS next year

While we are not paying this month, may we all bask in the knowledge that we are supporting freedom around the world spending $1 billion dollars per day on a war for Israel! So much winning.

Nah this going to be a clusterfuck, they’re baseline incompetent and they fired most of the competent people who could sort this out. Plan your finances like you’ll have to start paying this year, but don’t expect an efficient plan from Dept of Ed

Not much happens. You tank your credit, the government takes on more debt with less revenue coming in, and the system keeps turning while your financial situation gets worse as they pile on more interest until they decide to garnish you.

While this administration hates all Americans equally, it’s not going to pressure million dollar companies like MOHELA to hurry up or hire more staff to process things. It would be stupid to put servicers in that position and may even violate their contract. I would say 90 day...

Will we have enough time to apply for a different IBR plan before the payment is due? My worry is that we’ll be told the full (non IBR) payment amount and then they won’t process the applications quickly enough and then we’ll owe the larger amount

I highly doubt it’ll happen this fast. They will probably send a warning that we are required to pick another payment plan by a certain date, my guess- within 60 or 90 days. Once you do, they’ll determine the amount and start billing. So I would expect it to happen by May, alt...
