With SAVE dead, will we have to spend this month?
How long do we have unI learned we are kicked off and have to go to a standard plan? I am running short on cash this month and will be unable to fork over until April.

There is no set timing yet. We have to wait to hear from the department of ed about their plan to transition SAVE borrowers to something else.
Will they give us a heads up before just throwing us into standard repayment??
They have no idea what they are doing and fired so many people, this is getting pushed off to the next administration. Lmfao. They will have to force me off SAVE and move my loans themselves— I’m not doing shit.
I think a high probability is they will come out and say borrowers have until formation of RAP to switch to desired plan, after that all remaining SAVE borrowers will auto switch into RAP
I believe they're technically legally required to give us a 30 day warning so the absolute earliest we'd owe is 4/13 but this is about to be a huge mess because they're so understaffed and there are so many people on SAVE that I suspect we'll have awhile before we see a due date.
Plus, ya know there's a war on and Trump and Elon people gutted the department of Ed
Hoping they just mess it up and lose the files
No one knows the exact date, but no, its not this month. The logistics involved will push the actual date most likely into 2027.
Pleasssse I just need that little bit of time to keep overpaying on my highest interest loan lol IM SO CLOSE
I said this a couple days ago and my post got deleted for speculation. The DOEd has to publish guidelines, get approval, open IDR processing which they are at least a mil backlog then add in 6 mil more. So I was thinking fall earliest but hoing for 1st or 2nd qtr 2027.
I’m hoping for this bc I took a gamble and filed taxes jointly with my wife, thinking the court battles would drag on another year, and later that same day is when the news dropped that SAVE is officially dead 😭 I need to dodge payments until I can file taxes MFS next year
While we are not paying this month, may we all bask in the knowledge that we are supporting freedom around the world spending $1 billion dollars per day on a war for Israel! So much winning.
We have all the money in the world to make the world a worse place
The Dept of War spent $22 million on steak and lobster in one month.
Will spend billions on Israel but god forbid we spend a dime on US Citizens
Nah this going to be a clusterfuck, they’re baseline incompetent and they fired most of the competent people who could sort this out. Plan your finances like you’ll have to start paying this year, but don’t expect an efficient plan from Dept of Ed
Dept of Erectile Dysfunction
From the ashes of the SAVE Plan rises the SAVE Act.
That’s like saying; I went down to the sewage treatment plant, swan around a bit, mainlined Mein Kampf and emerged after a double dose of PCP.
Mine still says on Nelnet that payments are deferred until 2028 🤷🏻♀️
Mine just randomly stopped saying this and now I have to pay this month... I submitted a new IDR but they want me to still make the default payment this month...
It’s a placeholder
So does mine
Yes, but all payments must be made to Raytheon now.
lol
It’s a big mystery. If I had to guess, we’ll need to make payments starting in 180-360 days
Can’t pour from an empty cup.
I’m glad I saw this because this is the first I’m hearing of any movement with it. It’s just wild to me how they tried so hard to get everyone to switch to a different plan where they had to continue paying right away. So glad I didn’t listen.
There has to be negotiated rulemaking and public commentary first.
No there doesn’t, not for this. It’s a court order so it can bypass neg reg
Hopefully they get sued first and nothing moves forward bc I have nooo idea how they will hold everyone’s gov pay at 1% max increase until Trump is gone, while also all the PSLF ppl making less than private sector, while also making payments for those lower paid college educat...
Looks like I'm going back to school forever 🙃
Same, about to enroll in a local jc and take woodshop
Any correspondence PhDs?
I wonder if all of us on save got on our loan servers websites, department of education sites etc at the same time we could crash it due to traffic.
i ain’t paying shit
What… if… we all just agree not to pay them as a whole?
Not much happens. You tank your credit, the government takes on more debt with less revenue coming in, and the system keeps turning while your financial situation gets worse as they pile on more interest until they decide to garnish you.
My portal with nelnet and mohela say 2028. I'm not paying before that.
I think they have to notify you at least 60 days before you go back into repayment
He appoints people to important positions like he's a second grader picking teammates for gym class dodgeball, so I could imagine that it'll take quite some time for the imbeciles over at DoEd to figure all of this out.
My profile still says deferred until 2028.... ill have to check monthly to see od that changes...
Yall keep asking the same question for MONTHS AND YEARS — and refuse to accept the simple advice: JUST WAIT
Why would you think you would have to pay this month? Have they communicated with you that you would have to pay this month? Have you even applied for a new plan? They will let you know if anything changes, Jfc
While this administration hates all Americans equally, it’s not going to pressure million dollar companies like MOHELA to hurry up or hire more staff to process things. It would be stupid to put servicers in that position and may even violate their contract. I would say 90 day...
RAP is supposed to start July 1st this year.
As my Grammy used to say: can't pay if you're not on a plan
“But you can buyback them sumbitches” -also Grammy
F' standard repayment
This! They’re not getting a dime from me.
Will we have enough time to apply for a different IBR plan before the payment is due? My worry is that we’ll be told the full (non IBR) payment amount and then they won’t process the applications quickly enough and then we’ll owe the larger amount
Can we sue eachother, agree SAVE is not cancelled, and then take out agreement to the court to concur?
Mine finally says the loans are accruing interest at 6% but it’s not telling me I owe any money….
Did the 2025 student loan tax statements for interest come out?
Yes they had to issue them to us no later than Jan 31st. If you sign into your servicer account you should be able to download them.
Stupid question - I don’t have any accrual of interest… does interest accrue on SAVE?
Log into your account on your loan provider's website. It will tell you when you need to start making payments. This information can also be found on your credit report.
I highly doubt it’ll happen this fast. They will probably send a warning that we are required to pick another payment plan by a certain date, my guess- within 60 or 90 days. Once you do, they’ll determine the amount and start billing. So I would expect it to happen by May, alt...
According to my income and this new rap thing... my payment would be 97 dollars a month😅 at that point get rid of the shit and leave me alone.
So I am in forbearance still. What happens next?
30 day warning required.
I got kicked off of SAVE earlier than that. I have had to pay standard for quite a bit
Your best move might be to sign into your account and call up the loan simulator. Try out different options to see what's best for you. And, if you choose a new plan, document it and keep it safe in case you have to argue later...
I think October 2028. That's the deadline for Administrative Forbearance on my EdFinancial website.
Many of us were placed into forbearance for this reason. They are aware of how long it will take. While the department of ed can say “we want everyone to begin paying tomorrow” the loan servicers don’t have enough hands on deck. They could barely transfer everyone to a new ...
Hahaha, you think the government moves that fast??
The last article I read said July of 2028 but they highly encourage people to look into it on their own....lol
CSR here who works PSLF. Spoke to someone who is in repayment in April and was alerted to it by her loan servicer. Yep! Be ready for it. Your loan servicer will let you know!
Right now says don’t have to start repayment till 8/2027 for me
The website still says I'm in forbearance until 2028
My loans were all forgiven in 2024 right before the supreme court blocked everything, so I don't have to worry about this.
Who cares.. just don’t pay it
?
Why can no one afford payments? Large loans or what?
Low wages, rising cost of living
I attended a film school and earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. I would consider myself quite successful in the industry, and the standard repayment amount would have exceeded $2,000 per month. While not everyone pursues a Master’s degree, and not all schools char...
We actually have the money to pay ours off. But it means significantly less in savings, and if we are able to stick out 4 more years in the public service, we stand a chance at forgiveness Also this admin can go - itself. Killing elementary school girls, stealing resources f...
