how badly do I genuinely require the squealer tab, rockauto has been getting awful

car is already ripped apart, how badly do I truly must have a squealer pad on both sides. Rockauto has been losing it's touch. 🇨🇦 too expensive to deliver back and already torn the vehicle apart. Subaru outback 2006, 3.0

If they screw up and its like less than $50 I just say screw it and either try to sell the item for cheap, give it to someone who can use it, or throw it away. Not worth the effort. They are a great one way company lol.

Losing its touch? Getting bad? Most parts are packaged and shipped by 3rd party warehouses like autozone or pep boys, that most likely had nothing to do with rockauto. Rockauto hasn't "lost its touch" or "gotten bad" in any way. One squealer is fine, some brakes don't even...

Rock auto is a supplier. A good supplier has sourcing with a process and team to vet and monitor their suppliers. That’s the way any multi-tier supply chain works - automotive or otherwise - each part of the chain is responsible for delivering to spec. If the quality of the ...

To add, RockAuto ships literally nothing and carries no inventory of its own. Everything ordered through them is drop-shipped from a third-party distributor.

On my pathfinder, I have to rip them off 100% of the time, regardless of where I sourced the pads from. Keep up on your maintenance and checks and you'll be fine.

If you're changing your own pads , you've got enough sense to know when they need to be changed.

This, just keep an eye on them. The squealer is for idiots who don’t pay attention. You’ll know when you’re getting low again assuming your car even makes it that long.

given your pads wear evenly, this shouldn’t be a problem.

18
BadgerBright29

Well, they should wear evenly. Anyone that’s been around a while knows that’s not always the case.

35

zzil_l9· 30d ago

Just move to the rust belt where you always have to replace the rotors. Then it doesn't matter if they go metal to metal. And the grinding is as good as a squealer.

Hundreds of applications call for the wear tab on only one side. Cars that have wear sensors only have them on one side. This is one of the weirdest things I’ve seen someone get twisted up about. Rock Auto didn’t make those pads. They don’t specify their own features on them...

Once the one squeals, you already kinda know that the whole thing is on its way out. You don't really need each one of them to be squealing. Before you say it wears unevenly, it's fine you put that one with the squealer on the inner since it tends to wear slightly faster. Pa...

I did not put the wear tab on all four, only on two, and I think that it’s contributing to my brake squeal because of very slight binding because of tolerances. Brakes work fine they just squeak in certain temp ranges, drives me crazy, gonna go OEM soon

How do you expect it to be a rock auto issue? They don’t manufacture nor package the part. Most they don’t even stock or ship. 3rd party suppliers ship them and this looks like a Mfg problem.

1

It looks like you got three of the non squealer pad. Probably a packaging issue from the pad manufacturer. The squealer pad appears to have an emboss that may have it fit on one side of the rotor.

It's not just an acoustic warning, it also helps set the pad into the piston, which is why it's got a little nubbin on the other end of it. You've basically got one inside and three outside pads.
