how badly do I genuinely require the squealer tab, rockauto has been getting awful
car is already ripped apart, how badly do I truly must have a squealer pad on both sides. Rockauto has been losing it's touch. 🇨🇦 too expensive to deliver back and already torn the vehicle apart. Subaru outback 2006, 3.0

The real question is - did you get your magnet with your order?
🤣🤣. ... Brake pads are just an accessory. 🤣
I haven’t gotten them in like 4 of my recent orders
I second this
you dont. it should be there but meh. yea ive got hundreds of orders from rock auto, most are OK but good god trying to fix thier fuckups are a nightmare.
If they screw up and its like less than $50 I just say screw it and either try to sell the item for cheap, give it to someone who can use it, or throw it away. Not worth the effort. They are a great one way company lol.
Losing its touch? Getting bad? Most parts are packaged and shipped by 3rd party warehouses like autozone or pep boys, that most likely had nothing to do with rockauto. Rockauto hasn't "lost its touch" or "gotten bad" in any way. One squealer is fine, some brakes don't even...
Rock auto is a supplier. A good supplier has sourcing with a process and team to vet and monitor their suppliers. That’s the way any multi-tier supply chain works - automotive or otherwise - each part of the chain is responsible for delivering to spec. If the quality of the ...
To add, RockAuto ships literally nothing and carries no inventory of its own. Everything ordered through them is drop-shipped from a third-party distributor.
you seem like the type of person to change their breaks before it gets to that point.
You seem like the kind of person is to misspell the word brakes.
Yea I don't think I've ever driven my brakes to squealing point
Changed my brakes yesterday. Front was fine but the back were worn. About 2.5 years since
On my pathfinder, I have to rip them off 100% of the time, regardless of where I sourced the pads from. Keep up on your maintenance and checks and you'll be fine.
If you're changing your own pads , you've got enough sense to know when they need to be changed.
This, just keep an eye on them. The squealer is for idiots who don’t pay attention. You’ll know when you’re getting low again assuming your car even makes it that long.
given your pads wear evenly, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Well, they should wear evenly. Anyone that’s been around a while knows that’s not always the case.
Just move to the rust belt where you always have to replace the rotors. Then it doesn't matter if they go metal to metal. And the grinding is as good as a squealer.
Great plan until the caliper won't retract
CT, USA Independent shop Some pad sets only come with one squeeler as manufacturered. We usually put it as the drivers rear inner pad. This isn't a defective set.
I cut them off on my vehicles. So the answer is you don’t 😂
Do you somehow think Rock Auto makes car parts?
Hundreds of applications call for the wear tab on only one side. Cars that have wear sensors only have them on one side. This is one of the weirdest things I’ve seen someone get twisted up about. Rock Auto didn’t make those pads. They don’t specify their own features on them...
I rip those bitches off, and make a mental note not to let them go too far…
You don’t need them. Most pads don’t even have them.
Since yours only came with one, I would put that inboard of the driver side so you can hear it better when it squeals. Also have a habit of doing a visual through the wheels if you can. Considering you're in Canada, you probably do your wheel swaps during winter and you'll b...
dont need them at all if you check your pads occasionally.
I bought an alternator pulley from them last week and it showed the special spline tool in the photos and the description said spline tool included. No tool in the box. Had to go to stupid autozone to rent one.
Once the one squeals, you already kinda know that the whole thing is on its way out. You don't really need each one of them to be squealing. Before you say it wears unevenly, it's fine you put that one with the squealer on the inner since it tends to wear slightly faster. Pa...
Meh. Do you do rotations yourself? As long as you check them from time to time you are fine without them. The squealer is the last resort for people who don't know shit about cars. "Why is my car making this noise??"
at todays labor prices the brake squeelers don't mean jack, nobody turns rotors anymore, so worse case scenario you end up going metal to metal, which means nothing, cuuuuz you slam rotors and pads on there each brake job anyways. unless you have a heavy duty truck with big o...

I got 2 magnets!!!
I got THREE in one order last month. And then I got ZERO in my most recent order. The universe trying to correct itself I suppose.
1 is usually sufficient.
Don't really need them.
I did not put the wear tab on all four, only on two, and I think that it’s contributing to my brake squeal because of very slight binding because of tolerances. Brakes work fine they just squeak in certain temp ranges, drives me crazy, gonna go OEM soon
I mean one is good enough but routine check is better.
I don't see the need for squealers. Most pads don't even have them
Grind!
U don't. If you're very good at maintenance and check your brakes often, then u don't need it. But if you think about it, it's the only non-electrical thing that could save your life if the brakes are going bad. To my knowledge, there are no electronic sensors out there, in ...
I had this happen to me more than once, but with models that are not reversible. So fucking annoying
RockAuto did not package those brake pads. That issue came from the name on the box. That is the company losing its touch. I wonder how screwed up the rest of the pad is...
You're being weird. Lots of high quality rear brake pads only have one squealer per set.
How much do you like things to squeal?
Cut it off
Doesn't help for stopping power. Its a squealing issue. If they don't squeal you will be fine
just check them with a gauge
How do you expect it to be a rock auto issue? They don’t manufacture nor package the part. Most they don’t even stock or ship. 3rd party suppliers ship them and this looks like a Mfg problem.
It looks like you got three of the non squealer pad. Probably a packaging issue from the pad manufacturer. The squealer pad appears to have an emboss that may have it fit on one side of the rotor.
Too expensive to send back? Rock Auto sends you the prepaid shipping label, it costs you nothing. 🤔 Unless they old parts were completely shot you could easily put them back on for a couple days until the new ones arrive. Pain in the ass and inconvenient yes. On the upside...
Why do you need two?
They left 1 washer out of my drum brake hardware kit so I had to pay $40 for a shop set. I was so pissed
You guys get squealer tabs??
Rock auto did not make the pads and you selected that option. Can’t really say they are getting bad using this post.
I am aware rockauto doesn't make the parts but, do they not check anything over before sending, my entire box was falling apart and the pad box was torn open. And not the first time I've received my packages in poor boxes or having the products inside with no bubble wrap or pr...
Don't forget to use caliper grease and lubricate your sliders while you're there! Also post an after photo if you can !
Rock Auto sucks! Haven’t spent a penny there in 15 years
Finally someone said it.
Is this a Rock Auto problem or a manufacturer problem? Rock Auto doesn't make the pads.
I should cut the squeakers off my pads the next time I clean and lube my brakes. I'm more worried about them causing damage.
Rockauto has been crap🤣. Incoming fanboys to defend RA in 3...2...1...
Is their for a fucking reason.. seriously 🙄
It's not just an acoustic warning, it also helps set the pad into the piston, which is why it's got a little nubbin on the other end of it. You've basically got one inside and three outside pads.
