When someone dismisses concerns about wealth inequality with "You're recently jealous," how do you respond?
In my opinion the "jealous"-response is usually in terrible faith, an attempt to discredit someone in front of others. Sometimes it's genuine cluelessness however, not all folks have been educated on the risks of extreme wealth inequality. How do you respond in either scenario?

It's what's called a "thought terminating cliche". It's not about you at all. It's what allows the one who makes the statement to go "it must be that, so I no longer have to think about it." I believe it's usually done out of a subconscious fear that if they examined the is...
It's constructed blissful ignorance. But it is possible to deconstruct if you're a person they respect. It's important not to think of it as "intentional" though because that would suggest the person is aware of what it is. But people who have learned to use thought terminati...
>It's not about you at all. People tend to interact with others based on how *they* see the world. *They* might feel such a way about wealth disparity and expect you to feel no different (even if they're not consciously aware of all this). Ask them, "are *you* jealous?" an...
I am 9 years sober. Our system is run by wealth addicts. I am confident in saying this because it takes one to know one. Get addicts the help they need. For some that's going cold turkey Not to mention how wildly inefficient it is economically, but math doesn't seem to work...
Jealous?! I'm OUTRAGED
I don't want to be rich. I just want the rich to leave enough for the rest of us to have comfortable lives.
I don’t want what they have. I want to make sure *no one* ever has that much wealth again.
"Distinctly YES" and then I explain the problem and the problematic mindset at thinking jealousy is something that is inherently bad. You'd be surprised how fast agreeing with them stills their tongue.
But I'm not jealous, I'm angry. I don't want to be a billionaire. I want my clothes to be not made in a sweat shop. I want to be able to buy a house. I don't want a $100,000 medical bill because my dad got cancer! I just want them to fuck off and let me live my life!
I shouldn't have to outbid a billionaire for my home, that's my problem with wealth inequality. Jealous is saying, "you're just as selfish as they are, and you are just mad that you don't have it and they do. You'd do the same thing in their shoes" So there's a grain of tr...
I always say that I’m not jealous, I’m mad that villianaires have had so many chances and years to give us our fair share and they have repeatedly slap our hand away with stagnant wages while having record profits and golden parachutes for CEOs and layoffs for the staff. The...
>villainaires Clever! Did you come up with it?
I'm not jealous. I'm living a fairly comfortable life. We're in the top 2% of household incomes in my country. I'm in the middle between the homeless and the billionaires, but let's face it, I'm far closer to homelessness than to being a billionaire. But my own situation is n...
Ive never desired to be the kind of incompetent fool that comes with having every problem ive ever faced getting taken care of by daddy’s money and it would be even worse to be the kind of man that exploited all that wealth from his employees personally instead of inheriting it.
Maybe - but just look at what happened with Luigi. Either you do something about it, or others might. If it were me, I'd get real generous real fast.
Wanting to be a billionaire requires pedophilia, a mental disorder. You can live the Life Elon musk does right now on a normal salary by just tweeting and thinking about tweets 15 hours a day. You have to use the cheaper uppers but you can get there. There's just the one thi...
I don't want any more money. I have a modest, but sufficient income. I simply want them to help others less fortunate, and I don't have the additional means to do enough myself. The wealthy need to contribute more.
I usually ignore it because it's not true, I make a ton of money, both my wife and I are in the medical field and have already saved so much that money will never really be an issue for us. I'm still happy to be taxed more in order to help fund important infrastructure and a s...
Check out George Lakoff's books. A Political Mind is excellent reading. It gets to the point of conservative framing based on moral values & explains how to counter it. For me, it's obscene & immoral for anyone to hold that level of wealth when 60% of the population i...
I’m jealous how much less they need to work for the same thing I achieved. I’m jealous they are making all the decisions for this country. They are doing a horrible job. Nepotism will ruin a company, let wealth go untaxed and it could ruin a county. We need a system where ...
tell them i'm more into pizza than caviar
These idiots usually have no perception of the difference between big numbers like a million, billion and a trillion. Not necessarily the mathematical perception but what that much money can actually accomplish.
It depends on the type of person it is. Sometimes, the data approach works. Like when MA increased taxes on the millionaires...it created more millionaires because it got them to spend their wealth instead of hoarding it. It's good for everyone, it's big about me. Sometimes...
"No I'm not. This is an actual problem. The fact that you refuse to see that says more about you than me."
"Just keep telling yourself that."
All the money that is hoarded lowers the worth of money available. If 1 person has a trillion dollars that money is not circulating (out of the hands of the masses) yet it still counts toward the overall amount. If that trillion was dispersed (or never accumulated) we would ha...
“Karma’s a bitch.”
Ask them for their grandma's phone number and that you are going to scam and exploit her out of their life savings, because after all, it's just about jealousy
My response would be "I don't need any more, personally. I'm comfortable where I'm at. The problem is all the people who are condemned to poverty by holding jobs that don't pay a living wage".
"That's wouldn't make me *jealous*, that would make me *envious*. If you read books, you'd know that, and you'd also stop licking the boots of men who would slit your throat like a hog for a crispy 5 dollar bill."
"the word you're looking for is "envious ""
Jealous doesn't even scratch the surface.
I ask them where does that money go, who has to pay taxes more to replace it? and they start repeating how much they dont understand because they can't think of an actual arguement
If you oppose extreme wealth inequality while being poor, they accuse you of being jealous. If you oppose extreme wealth inequality while being wealthy, they accuse you of being a hypocrite. In the end, they just don't want you critiquing the system. They like the system as ...
"You're jealous" sounds harsh, but it's actually a good answer. When you're rich, you don't care—the rich can choose which country to live in. I think that's what people mean when they say that. But the only answer to that is, "It's probably not very cool when most people have...
