Three possibilities, pick your favorite: \#vanlife did not work out Vermin infestation at the old house. Surprise kids situation (taking in family to keep them out of foster care, etc.), but usually this would be stated and milked if my buy nothing group is any indication.

To be fair, Buy Nothing is literally just that, people looking to buy nothing or as little as possible. They're not being choosy, or even begging, they're just saying all the things they're looking for if anyone is already giving them away.

Yeah you can get just about anything off a buy nothing page. My wife has gotten a bunch of stuff and lists stuff on there in return. We just gave away a box of unused diapers over the weekend. They’ll also post curb alerts of people tossing stuff out. My neighbor just threw ou...

Yes. My local group would also say something to all the other people offering their advice on where to buy things. The rule is, if you don’t have it, you just don’t comment.

Definitely fits the purpose of a buy nothing group. I see nothing particularly choosy about this post. If she can save 1 mattress or desk from going to the landfill, great.

When I bought my first and only house, I had only apartment furniture which left lots of bare space. It takes time to slowly acquire more stuff and fill up the house, money was tight after the down payment. They want a fully furnished house after moving in? People in hell wa...

This sub should ban posts from Buy Nothing groups. The entire point of the group is to post what you need, in the hopes that someone can provide it for free. If they start arguing or telling you they need high priced items instead of what you got, then sure, post it. But this ...

I agree. The whole point of buy nothing is giving and receiving - to give items a second life and reduce our waste. These posts are below low effort. And all the people questioning why the kids didn’t have beds before… I mean, we don’t know their entire life… what if they wer...

This doesn't seem to be a choosing beggar, but there are people on buy nothing groups who are. If they ask for everything brand new, if they expect everything delivered, or if they are asking for a very long list of very specific things I think it fits. Also some people go on...

they aren't saying wild stuff like "want a brand dryer in black" something like that. they seem to want just whatever is a available.

I think it’s pretty choosy to ask for 4 beds. It’s like saying you can’t buy me a burger, you must buy me 4 burgers.

Have money to buy a house, but not furnish it. I hate people like this.
