They're Discus. This is just what they're like. They are the pickiest, most water sensitive fish I've ever had to deal with, and they SUCK with any other fish in the tank
They are also huddled next to the heaters. My BiL has an amazing tank with a handful of discus and other fish. They all seem to get along fine. He has a ton of plants and structure though too.

I used to breed Discus. I stopped incorporating Pleco in the tanks after one left a huge hickey on the side of one I was hoping to sell for a nice price.

Not big enough and has nothing at all for the fish to use (plants, rocks, etc.). And others have pointed out, the black fish apparently can turn aggressive towards the other fish if not properly fed. I'm not a fish guy, and I wouldn't put fish in such a tank. It's just cruel.

Heater could be broken/off and those fish are likely more sensitive to the cold. Likely staying near the warmest part of the tank while the placo doesn't give fucks

I have seen these sucker fish eat the fins and eyes off other fish, even with a lot of things to eat. From what a vet told me, they are not aggressive but will happily chew on slow moving fish.
