GSA: Federal Agencies Lag on Section 508 Accessibility Compliance.

[GSA: Federal Agencies Lag on Section 508 Accessibility Compliance](https://www.meritalk.com/articles/gsa-federal-agencies-lag-on-section-508-accessibility-compliance/) When they rather much designated accessibility as "DEI" and the 508 experts took the DRP or was given RIFd, what did they feel was going to occur?

Indeed. Accessibility for those with disabilities is statutory law. Executive Orders \*never\* outweigh statutory law, regardless of wording. Nor case law, for that matter. Nor current regulations, even. A couple of EOs included accessibility along with the War on DEI...

You're right on everything other than case law. If a law is found unconstitutional, that is "case law."

"The obligation to disobey illegal orders is not just for the military, it also applies to civil servants." This. 100% this!

Public affairs here. This was actually already occurring a lot before this administration change as well. They tell you to make things 508-compliant but it is not an easy additional task to do. You have to learn each program's way of 508 compliance-PDF, Word, Outlook, PowerPo...

I’ve seen a lot of things go through where the file name says “508 compliant” and it was not made 508 compliant… No one checked.

Public affaira here, too. Indeed it has always been a problem, insufficiently funded and never considered in the schedule. But it's now worse. Due to (I'm assuming) canceled contracts, there is no longer access to a contractor to perform these services for our bureau.

I'll only say this for me... But it's not easy to make "everything" 508 compliant across all the platforms a product may be used or interact with the public now. If all I was doing was web design, sure I know how to use the Adobe compliance tools to get my product in complia...

An angle on this that I consider under-discussed is the fact that this is presented as a challenge for the public. However, lack of 508 compliance also limits staff who use assistive technology from participating and/or developing career-wise. I’ve seen documents and action it...

This! I’m blind and teach at my job and I don’t know how many workarounds I’ve had to do to try and get around the fact that no one bothers to make their material accessible.

Man I loathe making every single thing 508 complaint. It creates such a lag time for getting things out the door. Adds like 2-3 weeks and costs so much money. Never once have I heard of someone actually using the shit we make compliant, and I think I would because half the alt...

The reason you don’t hear about it is because it is made compliant. If it wasn’t, you might have to deal with a deluge of accessibility requests. Also if it takes 2-3 weeks your drafting staff is the problem, not 508 compliance requirements.
