This is usually deliberate to encourage people over dose.

I do this both knowingly and willingly. It's like cheese you measure with your heart

What a hilarious false friend/cognate. In English we only use “cork” in the sense of something that stops up a bottle or container if it’s actually made of cork (or synthetic cork), such as is found in a wine bottle. We would call this a “cap”.

You're right! It didn't occur to me. In Norwegian we almost only use cork for everything related to stop up or close a bottle. But yes, "cap" would be a better word.

"lid" is also acceptable

It's not baking, the quantity doesn't need to be exact. Just put an approximate amount and it will get clean just as well.

The wrong detergent dose can actually effect its cleaning performance. Having a film on glassware out of a dishwasher is evidence of there being too much detergent, for example. And beyond that it costs money to buy so you want to save it

They are in the business of selling you lots of detergent. Use about half what they say, and it will be fine. I learnt this after repairing washing machines for a living many years ago.

Maybe they are reusing the bottle and cap from a different brand or product.

Does the cap have measurements on it? The detergent bottle I have have measurement marks on them as well as having a measurement for the full cap.

No, just the one mark at 40 EDIT: went and double checked. I misremembered. It does in fact have no measurements at all.

It’s the correct amount of detergent for 5,82 kg laundry with soft water.

First you fill the 5mL cork, and use it to fill the 3mL cork…

Is there a line on the inside of the cap that indicates 35ml possibly?

No, there are no marks at all. I mistakenly said there was a 40 mL mark earlier, but even that is missing.

Why are you "translating" to cubic centimetres? It's not a motorbike cylinder. Is this a language nuance?

One table has mL, the other has cc. I think that's fine. I didn't think anyone would be confused about this, I just figured that if someone doesn't recognize the mL unit then maybe cc will help them. And if people know what mL is then cc shouldn't confuse them either. It's jus...
