My thirteenth rationale 😭 /s
I am not sure what to do here? I tried to look up door handle breaking online but I get a lot more things for the exterior and not sure that’s the same stuff goin on inside. If it’s important - I have gotten broken into and since have had a few key changes and I noticed the handle is more finicky with the subsequent modify but I didn’t think this would happen. Would am fond of for someone to guide me the proper channel on how to search for this fix or otherwise. Thanks :)

You need a replacement part. You need to dissemble the door and install the replacement part. Reassemble the door. Drive car.
Nail gun
note : driving car is not necessary for replacing part
Or take the broken part to a 3D printing place, if the part is no longer available. Should be able to slam it and print a new one.
1999 Corolla !
Yeah, that tracks. There have been two of these cars in my family and this was a recurring issue with them. The front interior door handles break every couple years due to strain. If it's an emergency, you can swap the back left door handle to the same position while you wait ...
I have a 2001 corolla and bought like a 4 pack of these to replace cause they keep breaking (not after replacing) "how to change interior door handle on 1999 toyota corolla" lots of videos online. easy to do

The corolla is now your home, you will have to spend the remainder of your days in it.

Phenomenal !!! THABK YOU
Incredibly easy car to start learning on! Not a reason to end it all lolol
To be fair this felt like the cherry on top but yes thank you so so much !!
Looks like a 1990s Toyota. Extremely common (it has lasted 30 years of torture after all). This is an easy fix and a good way for you to learn about your car. Machines are about fixing them when they break, don’t get too upset and instead embrace it. This era of Toyota is the ...
Ahhh thank you for your comment. I appreciate the time you took to answer. I shall ✨embrace✨

Ok.. you need to learn to control your strength Cut back on the hand exercises.. 😂😋
All I got from this comment is I’m super strong and awesome so thank u 💪
Add super glue with baking soda
This reminded me of an old ass Ice Cube song for some reason.
Removing the inside door panel will give you access to the part(s) that need replacing. Look carefully and remove the screws securing the panel, use a set auto interior trim tools around the perimeter to pop the panel off, once the bottom and sides are free, lift the panel up...
You can buy corolla door handles off amazon
Make and model and year? This way, I'll know what to stay away from.
You have to look up your year and model of car replace interior door handles and watch a youtube video, these toyotas are easy to work on.

Holy moly!!
I built Camry doors in a Toyota plant for 7 years, not the Corolla but they are all similar enough. Get the part then message me if you need some help getting inside the door after you watch a couple videos.
Skill issue.....

Almost everything about cars is on youtube
Check out a pick and pull for the part(s). Take it off a junker yourself so that you don't mess up your own vehicle. Do it in a way that doesn't damage other parts.
Its a 1 bolt off and replace with a temu part type of job lol
Those handles are pretty easy to replace and are readily found on ebay. I think at worst you need a phillips #2 and a thin flathead screwdriver. Maybe a long screwdriver if you drop the mechanism inside the door.
You got this its that screw dead center snd some plastic clips! Definitely get the 4 pack i got locked out of my car door for a while i used plyers for a bit but ultimately i stole my back passenger’s handle for the front door and drove it for a couple months
Oh! Thanks for the idea to just reuse the back passengers in the mean time! Thanks again for your comment.
99 Corolla ? Super easy. Just one screw holding that plastic handle assembly. Just go to the wrecker and find the right color.
I drove an 01 Corolla for over a decade and instantly recognized it, I think I replaced both handles in mine over the years, if I recall the assembly is more or less a single part and swaps out quick.
Clamp some vice grips on there and drive on. Ain't nobody care.
Girl now I gotta google wth vice grips are but yes Im with you on this energy
Have someone 3d print a new one
SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!!
Either pull door card and replace handle or rig up a pull-strap
XD had this happen to me in my TJ I bought a set off Amazon and they printed lock on the wrong side. So not my Locked is unlocked and Unlocked is locked XD
They sell these in 4 packs on eBay it’s so common. One screw, slide it forward, disconnect the rod, and install the new one. 5-10 minute job. Get used to it, Corolla handles are the worst part of that car lol.
Drill in screw in that thang until you replace it
Looks like you couldn't handle it

Is that a corolla? My 94 corolla has 0 door handles left lol
Naaaaaauuuur!! Yes sir it is lol
Poor door handle was like "I'm tired boss."
Damn thats trajic
Truly lasagasaga, truly 😔
Amazon has them. Next day delivery to damn near every single city in the country! 😭 I'm fuckin dying. I just typed in several zipcodes over the country for delivery just for giggles and shits and now I'm damn near shitting myself laughing.
Real as hell however i don’t use Amazon. Another commenter said I could reuse a backseat passenger’s handle and then I’ll just wait until I find a part via car part store or whateverrrrr
Damn! hitting the gym i see

That is a quick and easy fix. One screw and the the unit should slide forward and come away from the door panel. You will need to unclip the rod from the back but that is also quite trivial to do. I bet that handle is available on rock auto and will be very cheap but I can ...
https://youtu.be/NPSUjHw3Olc?si=1NBNwVBjhGKgkzDR Quick video link. Something you can fix yourself for sure
I am a cheap bastard. I would try to glue it back on with super glue and baking soda you probably have some at home anyway. If that didn't work then I would get the new handle. You don't really have anything to lose.
Damn i fix a lot of things whit that and doing right that things last forever, i just wonder: am i a cheap bastard too? I mean , am ok whit the tag, just ask if i fit in.
youtube is your best friend here. i guarantee you someone will have a short video on youtube describing how to replace the door handle on your exact car model. i did this when the handle on my door broke.
Fix that easy with a plastic welder/hot staple gun- probably cheaper to buy the whole thing the staples off Temu then replacing the handle on your car door- easier too
Search the make and model of your car along with the specific addition of driver's side interior door handle and OEM part number. Once you have the oem part number you can ask around at part stores or auto wrecker lots for your part. Then YouTube how to do it.
I bought my replacement for handle from Daytona Toyota on Amazon. They sent me a real Toyota part. This makes a huge difference. The cheap, funny brands will break within a year. The extra cost of real Toyota will save you doing this job many times over. If you don't use...
Check Amazon or rock auto for parts. I drove a 98 Camry for 25 years and the interior became the majority of my issues. The plastics all disintegrated. New handles, locks, window motors, switches and seatbelts by the time I sold it.
Have to roll the window down to get out
Remove the piece and wash it thoroughly with soap and water. Let it dry. Ask someone for help. First, place a couple of drops of superglue (cyanoacrylate) on both sides and immediately press them together firmly. Don't move them. While you're pressing them together, have the p...
Those make it like 200,000 miles and snap just like that. My 06 Tundra broke exactly like that. Luckily Toyotas around this time are stupid easy to work on.
I once sat in the backseat of a car owned by a dude who sold me drugs and he had removed the door handles from the inside of the car😧
Normally I'd complain that you didn't include a year, make, or model - but I recognize that right away so here's a link to your replacement door handle on RockAuto https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2000,corolla,1.8l+l4,1432903,interior,inside+door+handle,1288
69206-02050-B1 is the OEM part number for the door handle. When taking off the old handle assembly, remove the screw with a number #2 Phillips head screw driver. Slide the housings towards the front of the car. Pull out slightly. There is a flip tab that you can use a flathea...
That kicks ass!
Take the chance and install one of those flat door panels with the straps to open. Cus race car lol
Sorry about the break-ins. Get a Club for your stealing wheel, and be vigilant about not using the door lever to pull the door shut.
…and lay off the steroids.

We used to break them off of my buddy's rockin rolla for fun and he'd have to pull the little metal hook the handle attaches to. Of course we'd go to the junkyard and find a couple to replace the broken ones for him. Then, eventually he'd mouth off again, so we'd break them ag...
Toyota Corolla? If you go to the backseat and pull that door handle off I believe you will find it is identical and can be installed in the front because screw that rear seat passenger. You're the one that needs to be able to get in and out of your car LOL
Is this a Chevy prism? Or Toyota Corolla? I had one as my forst car and this was a common occurrence. I replaced the handles inside and outside multiple times lol
Same. I owned a 2009 corolla....kept a spare handle in the trunk. This is definitely a corolla/prism. I was buying 2 packs of handles on ebay.
Looks like an 02 Corolla 👀
Replaced one on sister in law's Toyota. Took ½ hour
This looks like an Echo. Go,to,a,scrap yard and get what you need to replace the part.
Is it a Toyota ?
I recognize that shitty coin holder. Is that a 90s TOYOTA COROLLA???
Flexseal, if it can fix a boat it can fix a door handle.
Easy fix. Really. Cheap too.
Chip clip/s- problem solved!
This is definitely a DIY job. Prolly 5-20min tops of u have a screw druver and part on hand Im pretty sure its 1-2 screw to remove the part and then disengage the handle hook.
Thanks for posting on /r/MechanicAdvice! This is just a reminder to review the [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/about/rules/). Rremember to please post the year/make/model of the vehicle you are working on. **If this post is about bodywork, accident damage, pai...
Incredibly simple to replace, and a very cheap part online
just super glue it and pray
What god would do this meawssz !!? I couldn’t possibly pray to him/her 😔
Roll down window - open handle from the outside. Fixed!
You can get a 4 pack on ebay those Toyota parts are old on that corolla
Make, model, year, and trim level?
I think your Corolla might need new door handle, you can get it for like 5$ off of temu or some other site for like 20-30 $, You can definitely find some YouTube tutorial how to replace the door handle
Do not buy the cheap ones. They break in a year. If desperate you can swap the rear door handle into that position and put a cheap one on the rear door. The Toyota version has metal in important places.
Jb weld
What year , make and model car is it?
Go but a $29 plastic stapler from harbor freight. It melts little metal wire into the plastic. So once you temporarily secure it with the staples, take some JB weld epoxy and some fiberglass mesh or carbon fiber and strengthen the crack…… or you can go on your dealers website,...
They like to do that on that year..
Once you find a replacement part, those are fairly easy to replace. Just a couple screws and the door panel will pop off (be careful not break any clips) and then you should be able to access the mechanism for the door handle. You can pull up specific instruction for your car ...
Roll down window. Open door from outside. Roll window back up. Don't spend a dime to fix it, it gives your car character.
YouTube for sure has a video on this broski probably a $20 part and $20 in tools if you don’t have any yet.
I had a Corolla like this. It’s super easy to replace. Parts are like $15 on amazon or eBay. Just gotta get a screwdriver I think
lol I had a 99 corolla and at one point all of the interior and exterior door handles were all broken.
You can just replace the handle
But it's really difficult
Make one out of metal.
Super glue
Pull string when 😂
😅
I recently had an incident where I broke the cable that opens the door and was locked out. For the interior handle, it's very easy to switch out. Just follow the instructions for exterior handle. Once u get to the, "remove door panel" part, u have access to the interior hand...
Happened to my kia sephia had to wait a month for that to find its way here
I've done that, because my electrical system was messed up and I had to force it open
junkyards are your best friend for situations like this.
I recognize a 8th gen Corolla anywhere
You may be able to swap the one from the rear driver side door until you can get a new one. I know they were the same on some older Toyotas.
Got to be a Honda, right?
Thirteen reasons why
Chevy Tracker/ Suzuki Vitara.
I did this with each of the first couple cars I owned as a teenagers (hand me down car from my parents). You can probably find a replacement at a local junk yard for a few bucks.
I loved my 99 prizm (corolla with the Chevy bow tie) but MAN did I hate this. I went through 2 driver side interior handles within 8 months! This might your 13th reason, but hopefully not your 14th, 15th, 16...
I just swapped out an entire set for my neighbor. You really don't need a how to. It's really straight forward once you pull one off. The colored clip does NOT pop out, it rotates off of the rod and the rod pops out. I DO recommend a set of LONG needle nose pliers to hold the ...
When it happened to me, I took a long screw and put in what was left of the base.
Superglue
Looks like it's time for a trip to the scrap yard!
Easy fix. I went to the junk yards and pulled all 4 black ones out and took the chrome ones out of my 2016 corolla
That screw hole thats visible is probably a phillips. Take the door handle off by removing that screw. Get you a 3d printed door handle with the appropriate size hole and reattach. Bam its fixed
These handles were one of the poorest designs ever. They brake so often most part stores carry them in stock and they stock 10 differen handles on average. Good news they take 1 min to change. Buy a bulk pack off ebay and keep it in the trunk with a screwdriver.
Use pair of vice grips for a handle instead
this why everything about plastic pisses me off lmfao especially when yk the sun been hitting it for forever and now it’s weak & flimsy and all brittle n shet
Yeah, that’s actually a **pretty common failure** on older cars. The plastic **interior door handle** just gets brittle over time and eventually snaps like that. Good news is it’s usually an easy fix. You’re basically just looking for a **“interior door handle replacement”** ...
your real 13th reason will be when it happens to the other side next and you cant get out
Stooooop don’t jinx me like that. I still haven’t fixed it and have been using the other side to get out 😭
Call up the local bone yard, pick a part, and get a used one, unless the car is less than 5 years old then try talking to the dealer first as there might be a warranty.
You need interior driver door handle. Easy to replace. If this happened due to tight rods on lock cylinder something could be binding it up. May need to be rerouted or oiled. My guess is its binding up somewhere. Should be a straight shot to door lock actuator
That cars so clean. 🧽 This happened to me too. 🤦♀️
This also is not something to ignore. That handle is how you escape a burning car.
Betting it’s a Nissan
😈 let’s play a game
Sell the car, look for another car that looks exactly the same and buy it, problem solved
Yup. 45 year old Volvo. Swedes never designed the vehicle for UV exposure or air conditioning. Actually, they skipped the entire concept of keeping fluids in their respective lines, relays that activate, distributors that are watertight, seat foam and webbing that doesn’t c...
This happened to my Subaru, so I swapped it with the one in the back. Watch out there is probably a hidden screw somewhere.
Mine just broke, I ordered a set of new ones from Evilbay. Then took the one from the rear seat (drivers side) and moved it to the front. Rear passengers can easily exit passenger side if they can’t use the broken one.
Laughing 🙂👍
Alien tape and some gorilla glue to the rescue!!
If this door handle had already been replaced I would replace it with OEM. If it is the original handle then just replace it with an aftermarket one. It's very simple on these cars.
As someone who owns a Corolla and has that same picture of me doing it. You don't need to take the entire door panel off. There is a Phillips screw in the middle of the handle. Then you slide the handle forward towards the front of the car then pry it out. There will be a rod ...
You could start by providing the year. make and model....in your post. Crazy idea I know.
As someone who has owned nothing but 90s Toyotas, I still don’t really know how people are always breaking these. I’ve never broken any of mine.
Have you checked to see if there is a recall for the part yet?
Meh JB weld can fix this
