For a company that brands itself as a member owned co-op they sure love acting like a greedy corporation

Please share on CO and Denver subs.

Isn't this just a reflection of fallen sales? Not too many people springing for kayaks rn. What else are they supposed to do if they are "spending more than they bring in?"

Isn't the co-op just a couple stores

ugh not REI too... feels like every company is trying to save money at the cost of their workers

They have a union. They should strike.

eh, not really.  https://www.npr.org/2023/07/06/1186006322/rei-union-busting-allegations iirc, only a handful of stores successfully unionized.

Aren't they a worker owned coop? Also with the economy as it is I'd imagine sporting goods sales are way way down. If you can't afford food you aren't buying climbing gear and skis.

It's a member owned co-op. Technically and legally speaking but not so much in practice.

How is it better if they lay people off and close stores? The article states they’re spending more than they’re bringing in. Store closings are the next step. But I guess that’s capitalism. Survive with profits and massive debt

Guess they're taking ‘REI' to mean Really Exploitative Industry huh lol

With the price of everything being high, no problem boycotting them. I haven't bought anything from them in decades anyways.

The c-suite is taking a pay cut too, right? Right??? I mean the buck stops at management.

Hard to call yourself a co op while actively gutting the livelihood of the people who make it run

Sounds like a company where the employees should unionize to me.

Can do. I'm not interested in taking out a small loan to buy overpriced camping equipment, anyway

Can I even boycott them if I've never even heard of them? Like, should I go purchase something and then return it so it costs money?

No, I going to buy extra stuff there now.

Unfortunately I am not able to meaningfully boycott REI because they sell camping equipment and I would much rather die than camp
