Or somebody with access to the printer wants to fuck with the staff and patients a bit

Not just a printer, but a laminator too. It's quite therapeutic...

I can 3d print a solution to this lazy cheap fix. That is, if it is not, in fact, for emergencies.

Every emergency alarm I've ever seen in a toilet is a red cord hanging from the ceiling. A switch on the wall isn't particularly convenient if you've had a fall.

Interesting. Every emergency alarm I have seen in a toilet where buttons. One at a normal height and one at groundlevel.

They’re absolutely always 100% of the time a cord hanging from the ceiling, as this is in a hospital it may well be referring to an emergency switch in a ward at a bedside for example

What will have happened is a patient will have pressed the switch thinking it’s the emergency alarm and ended up in the dark, then unable to find the actual emergency alarm and made a complaint about it. The reason the switch is red is because it is fed by the emergency power...

It's rather people might think it's emergency, not press it and keep looking for light switch.

> The reason the switch is red is because it is fed by the emergency power system. Given this is NHS - the reason will be that the original switch broke at some point and they couldn't get the budget signed off to buy a replacement switch so they used one of the spare eme...

What would be the necessity of knowing it is fed by the emergency power system

I mean, it's visible, might be better for people with poor eyesight than white switch on white tiles. And where I'm from the emergency alarms are pull switches not buttons. The question is does it comply with the NHS standards or not?

Red switches in NHS hospitals indicate the switch is part of the uninterrupted power supply circuit. If power from the grid fails, the onsite diesel generators will automatically take over and continue to supply these switches with power.

It being red means it will still be powered by the hospital's backup generator in the event of a power outage

Any kind of emergency signal in a hospital setting will have a cord that you must be able to reach from the floor as if you've fallen.

Imagine pushing that button for your dear life without this sign...

In other news, our (psych) patients often press the little red emergency button in search for a light switch, which are huge and white.

A relative was in hospital for a while and their room had a code-blue button right next to the light switch.

Take the sign and put it on every non-light switch in the building lol

estates probably just didn’t have a spare white switch lying around when they had to replace it

I’ve been to a ton of different hospitals and would have never guessed that was anything but an emergency switch

Any handyman could easily fix this problem... When did everyone get so goddamned cheap?!

I'm pretty sure that I worked at this trust over a decade ago. We had to have three sets of signs for the door exit buttons so that people wouldn't smash the emergency exit door release (the one that looks like a fire alarm).

What if the emergency is, you need light?

I do appreciate all the explanations people are providing, but if it was necessary for them to put up a sign, then the design sucks and should be changed. Plus not everyone can read English, so a sign doesn't solve the issue anyway

Guess it’s time to pull up the landlord again… nothing safe from a paintbrush lol.

10 second with a paint spray can and its fixed. but nooo just take 1 hour editing, printting and taping 300 copies of this in the whole hospital

Or… they could’ve replaced the confusingly red switch with one that needs no explanation… Nah!
