All crochet dresses and cami tops are so ugly.

I follow a lot of crochet artists but imma be honest, none of y’all’s crochet dresses and cami tops are in fact good looking. Crochet techniques aren’t supposed to be made into dresses. The fact that heavy yarn creates that draggy and no structure look is making the function so cheap in my opinion. I notice similar to crocheting a dress or a tight top is just a waste of occasion and your skill.

I crochet and still, I agree with you. Although to be fair, I have seen a few of those that look absolutely lovely. Including a wedding dress that was just amazing to behold. But overall they look bulky and unflattering. I am pretty sure that’s just cause they’re using a wrong...

To make really nice fancy looking stuff you basically have to use yarn weight 1, maybe 2, and it will take forever and miles of yarn. You can get a pretty decent cardigan out of heavier stuff, but a dress or a cami or something needs something super light. I'm gonna do my moth...

i've seen some loosely crocheted wedding dresses that go over white slips that remind me of the 70s macrame look that i really like.

Yeah, same. Crochet is great for cardigans, hats, scarves, blankets, and, my personal favorite, stuffed animals. But it's not for shirts or dresses.

>Crochet techniques aren’t supposed to be made into dresses How do you know that? Knitting didn't start with someone making a sweater. Sewing didn't start with someone making a tuxedo. Paper-making didn't start with Banksy shredding a print in a frame. I think crocheted cl...

As a crocheter I agree, unless you're a very artsy person who wears particular clothes the technique looks too bulky for a dress. Plus the blocking doesn't always get you the most fitting form

Because through the years and years of practice crocheting was found to be best for blankets and throws and similar stuff. Although yes, officially it’s not a rule. I agree with OP that 90% of the time crochet clothes don’t look good. Sometimes, very rarely, with talent and l...

I kinda agree. I don’t like standard crochet for a dress, but there’s so many types of crochet. Tunisian crochet kinda looks knit. Lace work is freaking nuts and drapes nice like for wedding dresses. Filet crochet is in right now and I love the dresses people have made.

You aren't following the right creators then. There are some crocheters who make fantastic garments, partly because they choose the right weight of yarn

It’s the yarn weight, as others have said. Worsted and thicker makes a stiff fabric, especially if it’s cotton.

Yeah the real problem with crochet clothes is they make them with yarn that’s way too thick a lot of the time

It depends on the pattern and person. I’ve seen some nice Scottish or Irish crochet dresses on Etsy

If the yarn is very lightweight, and you use lacey crochet stitches, you end up with beautiful, delicate work with a nice drape. Sometimes people will think it's knitted just because it looks good. So I disagree with you because I think you're really only talking about work ma...

for the most part i agree with you. the only exception i've seen, imo ofc, is the boho halter tops, and they only look good on small-framed women with itty bitty tiddies.

My friend makes these types of tops with sock yarn and they're big boob friendly. She adds two thick bands right under the boobage and sock yard has very little give so everything stays put.

Even more so the boho halter tops, it's just a shape tied onto an attractive flat chested woman. No skill required

You are probably following the wrong hookers. Crochet lacework can look fantastic, or even just using a lower weight yarn will allow for better drape.

It really depends tho. A lot of them use the wrong yarn, often too chunky and the wrong material, which automatically makes it look cheap and trashy. Using the right yarn for the right project is the key.

I feel like with ugly crochet sweaters, they’re trying to make something comparable to a knitted sweater. That doesn’t work. There are so many pretty lace crochet garments that use the strengths of crochet.

I agree, it’s why I started knitting. To each their own but you won’t catch me with a dense, crocheted fabric lacking any drape. Crochet is a great skill to have as a knitter though; I regularly use it in patterns.

Thank you. I can’t stand crochet clothing. Knitting is much more conducive to the curves of a body because it can drape so much better. No shade to crochet artists there just hasn’t been a single garment I’ve seen that’s actually wearable.
