Only just bought for $900 2007 Infiniti g35 vq35hr
Barely bought for $900 but it doesn’t start, I connected my portable battery but it only had 10v so I couldn’t crank it. If it’s not the battery What could be the rationale it won’t kick off?

Without knowing anything else, I would say there are somewhere between a few hundred to a few thousand different reasons a car wouldn’t start besides battery.
Spark, air, and fuel are what a car needs to run. Going down the line is quite easy.
Well besides compression, it’s only really fuel, air and spark to be honest.
I mean, they bought the car for $900. It should be in tip top shape for that price.
“The battery I used was dead so it wouldn’t start. If the battery wasn’t the problem what could be?” Dude wtf
And half of the comments will be something like "it's definitely your transmission" Mechanic subs are a clown show unfortunately
Every other post feels like a meme sub post on here lately
My thought, if it was just a battery, it wouldn't be $900. That's a great way to hide bigger issues from potential buyers. " Can I hear it run?" "Oh sorry, the battery is dead"
Yeah it's 99% something like this, and you'll know because if you ask the seller to jump it, they'll start back pedalling
See this is why when I buy used trucks and I hear that I bring a battery
Even if starts with a jump, it's a way to disguise a lot of obdii codes like the good old P0420/430
Why don’t you get a working battery and then see what happens? Like the other comment said there’s a lot of reasons a car won’t start.
I will 👌🏾
10V will not start your car. New battery is the place to start.
10V can start a car, but it must be an ideal start, just one crank and no juice left.
Looks like a takeover special, check fuses, fuel pump and check the starter once you've got a new known good battery in it
Thanks 💯
G35 menace😂😂😂😂 u are cooked buddy
Oh he'll be a menace alright, throw a $900 Nissan on the road and it's a hazard to everyone around it
Start with verifying the battery is good and go from there. Nissan/infiniti battery clamps have a tendency to come loose over time. See if you can twist the battery terminals on the posts easily.
>Nissan/infiniti battery clamps have a tendency to come loose over time I don't think they were designed to handle the G forces put on them
I’m sorry but I’ve already decided how this is going to turn out based on the fact you just spend a grand on a nonworking car, with no technical knowledge AND you made a whole fucking Reddit account named “g35menace” I can’t wait to see the future updates
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Check the engine turns by hand. Then put a proper battery in it and try again
That g35 is about to be a Menace to your mental health.
Physical health too if OP gets it running.
Siezed bearing, electrical short, bad starter, locked accessory, bad ecm, bad relay, bad ignition, anti-theft lockout, bad shifter position switch, bad ground, bad cables, bad flex plate, timing component failure, and so many more! Don't gamble on "mechanic's specials" if o...
Brother you might wanna learn more about cars before you buy a $900 car that doesn't even start. There's a long ass list of things this could be. But new battery is the first start, you won't get it to start with a completely cooked battery even if you jump it.
Reason it doesnt start is probably because it doesnt work.
ah yes the "just the battery" scam
It’s a project car these are decent cars fr
Yeah these are great cars, when they're not $900 because they don't run.
These cars have a known issue with long term low battery causing the security system to activate for a crank/no start with code 1320. If you see a red light continously on in the middle of the dash when you turn the key (not cluster, dash unless it changed for that run) you kn...
Take this pos to the junkyard please, it was sold for $900 for a reason bud
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.
Username checks out
If you aren't delivering enough power, the starter won't turn. Try jumping it with another car. If there is still no crank I would run to harbor freight and grab a long breaker bar and some sockets. For 900 bucks I'd be worried it's seized. Try turning the engine manually wit...
Probably a dead engine if you only paid 900 for it. That be my guess.
Did you watch the previous owner start it and have you ever started it prior to this
Brother you should have taken your 900 to the casino. It's not our job to dig you out from across the internet and nothing to go on lol. Replace the battery and then check back.
Try blowing I nto the tail pipe.
You just bought it and decided it was a good idea to create an account with your current name? Maybe just... hand the car over to someone else.
Once it starts, you're gonna have to put that car in you Will.
Holy clapped
Lessons are learned through mistakes. Sadly this is gonna be an expensive one
Are you getting power on when you turn the key to on position? Can you test the battery to see if it's good? Do you hear the fuel pump engage when you have the key in the on position? Get a can of starter fluid and spray into the air duct/ throttle- if it starts for a second t...
Really depends could simply be a bad ground Could be corroded wires Could just be a shit battery Alternator could be bad so it’s not charging the battery A lot of people get rid of cars that were in floods could be water damage There’s a lot but I’d start with the simple ...
Fuel, air, spark. Check those if your battery/fuses are all in order. Though I suspect your battery or alternator may be the culprits here.
That's a $100 per letter and number
Buy a brand new battery
You're rightfully getting clowned on, but we all gotta start somewhere. Download your factory service manual (NICOforums has most of them), get a multimeter, follow the diagnostic steps. If you really want to make it work, you will. And you'll learn a lot and lose a lot of mon...
Honestly I would try turning the crankshaft to see if the engine will even turn over.
Is that near the belt? He had a ratchet and showed me him turning the belt
Ah the old "buy before you try", bad luck man
Iirc these are famous for rod knocking
For $900 I'd be surprised if it isn't knock knock knockin' on heaven's door
You’ll spend alot of time working on it. But if you like that, then cool.
Lmao these people
I mean for $900 you could part it out and still break even.
Lots of reasons. You need a a charged batrery or consistent voltage before you can do anything.
Learn about a galley gasket, and then throw your wrench at the car. I had a g37, good times, but never again
Maybe jump or charge the battery first? Could be the alternator and a number of other things. Maybe it’s out of gas.
Run the Vin and check accident history, it's been in at least one.
its exhausting how many comments come from obvious non mechanics in this sub. it needs a battery, throw a battery in it and see what it does, thats the obvious part. the part thats less obvious is someone wanted to get rid of this car for 900 bucks in this economy, to say ...
Exactly you said it best im getting $2700 from college to fix it so I’m getting it fixed regardless
Depending on how long it's been sitting the fuel pumps usually one of the first things to go out
Here is a good video explaining what to check if an engine won’t start https://youtu.be/PNhuDCVIydw?si=Zswju6vPK1K-Uzx4
I wouldn't buy a battery until you know its the problem as well as if the car is in reasonable shape to move forward with repairs. I would recommend getting a slightly better than avarage jump box. You can pick one up for about 50-70 bucks on amazon. Not the huge heavy dude...
Check the specs on the end line rotary girder

$900 car. A few thousand dollars in repairs. Lol Buying a dead car that doesn’t start without knowing what’s wrong with it is crazy
Even if it comes out to 5-6k OP still came out on top. He'd have fresh parts in a car that he owns, that's better than what a lot of us have going on. That said, this wasn't a smart decision.
What's right with it? (Shorter list.)
Put gas in it
G thirty fizzi
That engine consistently made the top ten list. Hopefully, it's got a stick shift. I had an '06. Fun car to drive.
Sooo you bought a $900 car without the ability to perform the most basic of troubleshooting steps? That's a "mechanic's special" price, expect to pay a pro a lot of money if you can't at least do basic troubleshooting and catch up on a decade of neglected maintenance. Like, ...
This thing is going to the nearest takeover in its area and then into a light pole with everyone in the crowd going “that was crazy”

Does it crank?
Crank or start ? Theres a difference.crank it could be starter, relay, transmission range sensor, bad grounds or battery cables. No start list goes further.. fuses, crank sensor cam sensors, timing, fuel pump, MAF sensor, etc. I can write u a list for a no start condition. But...
Lmao WTF? Make this post AFTER you actually try the battery?? We are cooked
Thanks for posting on /r/MechanicAdvice! This is just a reminder to review the [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/about/rules/). Rremember to please post the year/make/model of the vehicle you are working on. **If this post is about bodywork, accident damage, pai...
You need 3 elements for car to go. Gas, air, spark. No spark no go. Too much air, no go. Start simple, battery, alternator, starter. If those don’t work check ur fuel pump. If that doesn’t work time to move up to big boy issues, check your crank and cam position sensors. Other...
Battery, alternator can’t charge the battery so the battery is also dead, immobilizer, limp mode set off by a dozen of other issues we can’t say what without knowing codes or computer data, etc. if the battery is that dead, just grab a tool battery and some wire, and jump the ...
Is it rusty? Has it been in a crash? Does it have a zillion miles? If none of those then anything else is fixable. Try jumping the battery from an actual car with actual jumper cables. you can’t charge a 12v car battery with 10V portable battery! If you jump it it should...
Wow Texas requires emissions tests in a bunch of counties up to 24 year old cars. Massachusetts only requires up to 15 years (of course our cars rot away faster)
Yeah you wish cars were that simple.
Hope you turned the crank
The money pitts itself
Air, fuel, spark, or timing. As to how much is wrong no one can tell you from the images or information you've provided thus far
We need an update after you get a new battery
How many miles because those are always beat to shit and the only way its worth 900 is if you get a kit for the car that doesnt cost you an arm and a leg. Mind you that you wont have a g35 at the end of completion.
Fuel, air, spark, other. And other can be a lot of things. Bad compression, seized motor, rat’s chewed ignition. Hopefully it’s just one of the first three, but given it was 900 bucks my money is on other in this case.
I’m afraid your right I noticed the driver side floor was wet only on that part though
Most likely just a clogged sunroof drain. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about a flood.
Those cars are so fast. If its not total junk u got a good deal.
