Unfortunately to afford a Shire you have to climb the corporate ladder 🙃
Exactly. You’re born and capitalism and hierarchy immediately shackles you and forces you into a life you never wanted and can’t afford.
This "hobbit vault" costs \~$2K to build: [https://www.bioveda.co/vault](https://www.bioveda.co/vault)
See that’s the biggest trick of it all. If you remove the concept of the ladder entirely, *everyone* can afford to live in the shire. They stole it from you by tricking you into thinking capital was necessary. It never was and still isn’t.
Most perspective of Hobbit life we see is from their equivalent of aristocracy and regional lords. Pippen and Merry were effectively heirs of great houses. As nice as the Shire looks, it's dependent upon agricultural labor to a degree that doesn't come through much in the show...
That's not just an issue with Lord of the rings, but all fantasy. 99% of the time the story focuses entirely around the aristocracy. If we see poor people, it's only to show the aristocracy was being bad at managing their lands or before the main character is revealed to have ...
As we see from Sam though, even the "lower" classes had plenty and were happy with all their needs comfortably met. We didn't see any skinny hobbits, nor any hobbits complaining about too much work. Plus with how many meals they eat a day that equates to multiple breaks. Fr...
I hear you (But also the Shire is applicable to a conservative mindset to live in ignorance while the "outside" world burns down around them until they are also scourged)
Also the shire got burned down in the books, right? Edit: derp, I didn't read the last line of your post.
> the Shire is allegorical No. Tolkein disliked allegory.
And enough Hobbits sold out their own people that The Shire could be taken over. Also the health care is crap, Frodo has immigrate to a foreign country to get decent care, and they are wildly ignorant of world events. Definitely a conservative land, despite feeding & housi...
Unfortunately, Hobbits have a hierarchy too. The higher up the hill you live, the more you are worth.
Penthouse Hobbit hole dellers be like:
The higher you get off Gandalf's weed, the more you are worth
They fought the corporate raiders off too 😅
And eat multiple times a day.
Never heard of it.
In the shire as Frodo, who inherited a nice house and gets to chill or as Sam, who has to be Frodo’s gardener? lol I mean I’d rather be Frodo’s gardener in the shire than my current job but it’s not a ladder less society
second breakfast and elevenses should be protected by law honestly
It always looked nice, having a home inside of a hill. As a kid, I saw it with wonder, not unlike a log cabin. As an adult, I envy that simple a life.
and now, an oposing view by Loubella Sackville-Baggins.
I cannot explain how much I would want to live in an underground house.
Shire is fine if you happen to own a haul of dragon treasure and some magic artifacts. Other folks are stealing carrots from their neighbors.
But you have to be born there first.
I've walked those streets, pretty place
Problem is corporations want to destroy the Shire.
Full of pretentious arseholes like the Sackville? Oh Hell Naw. I'd rather be a ranger on the wilderness
> I'd rather be a ranger on the wilderness Good news! That’s a life you can live today
I been there one time! Great pub! 🍻
And smoke that weed
I just want to read all the books in my hobbit hole, smoke a pipe, nap, grow apples and make cider.
Is this really a place?
Like 99% of every human I would guess
No thx to both.
Amen
at some point we have to question how worth it it is to work so much when most of our income goes to rent and maintenance of our life as it relates to work, ie living close to work in the city, car, parking, gasoline, insurance rates being much higher there. everything is more...
I think Matamata is pretty expensive. Lots of Horse Studs in the area. Same with nearby Cambridge.
then you have to deal with the social ladder BS
Half of it submerged in rainy season.
No you don't, unless you mean the Baggins Mansion
Everyone wanted Bagend, which exists at the top of a hill. Fractals
LOL these people are not centrists. The last centrist the democrats ran was Bill Clinton.
My wife and I decided to do this, instead of trying to buy one little apartment in the city we moved to the suburbs 1:30hrs away to live in a little house next to a forest. Now we were able to buy a 2nd bigger house and between the 2 (new) it was still cheaper that 1 little ...
