Carvana tow driver was picking up a manual transmission Jeep Wrangler from my house today and drove it into my EX's automobile. Poor dude was devastated after.

Who starts a car standing outside of it???
More importantly how is that even possible with a stick shift? You have to be holding down the clutch.
Yeah, this is entirely on the dude. When you grow up driving stick, you always learn to check it's in neutral/out of gear, handbrake on, and clutch in if you're feeling thorough, before you turn the key.
Oh boy, you'd be surprised! This is why modern cars insist on you pushing the brake down before starting. Surprised this one doesn't have that feature.
I guess he's not to familiar with clutch pedal
I miss driving a stick! 😩
Does it not require both the clutch and the brake to be pressed to start it? If not, that explains a lot lol.
Did he...hold the clutch with his hand and...then started the car? What

Done the same before, but only because I knew mine was in neutral with the e-brake up. But some people prefer to park in gear with no e-brake. Looks like that's what happened here
omg that's a triple whammy.. your ex was there, the poor driver was mortified, and now you've got insurance paperwork to deal with 😭.
I’m curious how Carvana is handling this. Are they giving you the money they originally offered for the Jeep and then handling the repairs on the other car?
The jeep was a return so they already took the Jeep back. I'm waiting on a call back from my local carvana hub. I called the customer service number as advised by the drivers supervisor and they are forwarding the issue back to the supervisor I believe. There are three compon...
Bought a manual jeep from a canadian equivalent company, the day the dude brought it to my house to deliver the vehicle he asked me some questions and lowered the deck on the trailer, said “ill have this off for you in a jiffy” he then fired up the jeep which was still in gear...
it seems crazy to me that a manual car can be started in any gear other than neutral
Fun thing is when the clutch is engaged, it’s in no gear. Dummy shouldn’t have started it without being seated.
How else do you get it started/moving when your clutch pedal stops working?
Might have a bad e-brake, so they keep it in gear to keep it in place. At least that's why I had to do this for a while
Who TF starts a car from standing outside of it??
1. Anyone who says that you shouldn't have a manual in gear while parked is wrong. You most certainly should in case the parking brake fails, the engine compression prevents the car from rolling, unless the incline is too steep. 1st gear for pointing downhill, reverse for p...
This is the right answer. There is definitely no "neutral safety switch" on these vehicles (at least in the US), and you should absolutely leave it in gear when parked. Fun fact: if the Jeep is in 4 low, it'll also bypass the clutch pedal interlock, and you can inch the vehic...
knows how to push the clutch in, but not how to put it in neutral.
Bro didnt do the preflight wiggle.. always do thr preflight wiggle
Elder millennial who can drive stick representing. Yeah, post-landing wiggle is followed by e-brake, removing the face plate of your Alpine radio and stashing it under the seat.
When I bought a manual Honda last year I had to wait two hours to pick it up because the only guy at the dealership that could drive stick was at lunch. A week later when I sold my manual Mazda to Carvana I had to drive it up on the flatbed myself because the guy they sent co...

It really depends on the vehicle. I have had manual vehicles with safety switch where you had to depress the clutch in order for it to start, and others where you did not. Regardless, I would always depress the clutch and do the wiggle when starting.
Yikes...
Guess the Jeep had other plans, classic manual transmission strikes back moment
This is why I like to keep my car in neutral. Almost hit my dads Benz
Why didn't he get in the car before starting it?
This is some crazy tv show stuff.
I would always start it in neutral though. Weird why he didn’t use the e brake and then put it in neutral before starting
Millennial anti-theft device.
Well that is a firing. What the hell was he actually doing? Fun fact people! The drivers tooling around in those Carvana car delivery vehicles do not have CDL's (commercial drivers licenses).
Honestly though, I feel bad for the guy. He legitimately felt bad for the doing it and it was obvious. I wish him the best and I hope it doesn't affect his livelihood.
Looks like he was flipping it to run to read mileage, but turned the key too far. Without the clutch or brake depressed that shouldn't matter. Unlikely to be fired, mistakes happen, but lots of hassle all around.
Your ex or the driver lol. Depends what the ex did I guess
I can't believe he did it three more times.
But… You can’t start a manual unless you press the clutch in… How did he manage to do this? Edit: Wait he pushed the clutch in with his hand? Didn’t confirm the car was in gear? He deserves to be “devastated”, lesson learned. This is negligent.
I sold 2 manual transmission cars to Driveway.com. They ACH wire the money to you when you send a pic of the car on the transport. So you can bet I was the one that pulled the car on the transport both times while being directed by the driver.
Why was your ex at your house?
We still live together. We have children. It's not an easy split. She's leaving soon.
The car usually stalls if you turn it on geared, what the fuck?
He should not have moved the vehicle prior to taking photos of the incident. Yikes.
In my younger days I added remote start to one of my manuals once. I tested it in a parking lot to see what would happen if I ever forgot to leave it in neutral. It would lurch a couple of feet on the starter before the system would give up. Every time I started it remotely th...
Another reason why to place your car in neutral with e-brakes. Not in gear 😂
My manual Nissan truck will not start unless the clutch is pressed all the way down.
Everyone talking about “diD HePUsH dUh CLutcH” when Yall should be asking OP who tf parks their car in gear?
that's why you always check that the gear shift is in neutral when starting a manual.
Looks like someone left it in 1st gear. I never really understood why people do that though. I used to drive a manual and would just leave it in neutral with the e-brake pulled.
First gear with e-brake is the most secure way to park a manual vehicle. It's hard to see from the video, but it it's parked on a slight incline as well. Edit fixed e-brake lol.
I was taught to leave it in first with the parking brake on as well, if the car is facing downhill than I leave it in reverse. It's extra insurance if the parking brake fails (which actually did happen with my first car)
Well thats the fault of whoever put in the autostarter and bypasses the neutral safety switch. A manual should not start unless its in neutral. That 100% started in 1st gear. That only happens if someone has modified the neutral safety switch This is on whoever modified ...
This isn't a thing in the states. There is no regulation for neutral safety switches and they don't exist on manuals here.
That is an example of why you shouldn't leave car vehicle in gear. Use the brake
Haha he shouldve apid more attention and you shouldve not left you pile in gear. But it is what it is now you dont have two cars to drive
Part of the blame has to go on the person who parked it and left it in gear.
Standard practice, extra insurance in case the ebrake fails. If you leave it in neutral the car will roll if the brake fails.
