People often forget local business owners are usually shitty right wingers who don't pay a good wage and treat their employees like shit. So we need to stop saying "buy local" as if it's a catch all. Most local businesses would be exactly like Amazon if they could.

Political affiliation doesn't determine how a business is ran. I've worked for many self described liberals and democrats that were scum bags

I'ma be honest, the better approach is probably anti-consumerism. At the end of the day every single company in this nation (US) is built off exploitation, and so it's probably better to use your money more efficiently. Buy what you need, reuse what you can, limit impulse buyi...

Not to mention there’s a megacorp supplying pretty much every “local” business. If not Amazon itself. Buy union, or buy less. Stop consuming what we don’t need to consume.

I've been going out of my way to try and buy from not Amazon... It is crazy how much shit still comes from Amazon when I use other websites.

I have been doing this it is so difficult to find some products. Or spending a lot more time at the store trying to find items.

The problem with that is that their main business are their servers. Kinda hard to do that local

Not that hard, we just allow the cloud monopoly without a second though most of the time and act helpless, while choosing the "easy" over learning and doing stuff on your own more often than not.

Exactly. Business like Amazon never watch the line go up or down and they never try to extract every penny. Amazon doesn't care. They certainly never ever try to bleed the stone dry like ultra profit motivated assholes so don't bother trying to protest them. Keep giving them m...

Problem is people don’t seem to have the backbone or conviction to follow through with this. They’ll be spouting anti billionaire shit while selecting 24 hour delivery. I personally haven’t used Amazon in probably a decade. Seemed hard at first but I guess my life is so unspec...

It's difficult because like the post title says, they have a monopoly. Even if you try ordering from company websites, they often push through Amazon sales.

People don’t seem to have the option sometimes if you are broke and busy. Amazon often has the cheapest option for the same product, also is the most convenient as you don’t have to do shit but click a button and wait for it to come. I know more than many as a previous Amazon ...

Amazon doesnt get most of its wealth from Amazon.com. It comes from their web service called AWS that pulls information from your site visits. Use Duckduckgo or another platform that blocks AWS.

And thousands of small businesses sell products through Amazon.

That's not what AWS does and duckduckgo doesn't block AWS. Reddit uses AWS. You'll be logging off now then, right?

Buying local is always the best option. Another approach is to look up the manufacturer of a product you find on Amazon and buy directly from their website instead. Platforms like Etsy or eBay are also great alternatives for online shopping. Some might disagree, but I’ve perso...

The solution is also to buy from any independent business that is nont corporate where possible. We need more buy independent marketplaces that only sell non-corporate products. Also we need to stop working for corporations.

This exactly. Don’t get me wrong I’m patient but say for instance when going to Barnes and noble I’m not going to pay $50 for a book when I can get it on Amazon for $25-$30. I’d LOVE to support local but businesses need to step up their game. Shit they don’t even price match.

Since quitting Amazon, I've re-learned how to live simply. So many of the items I thought were needs, really weren't. Growing up, there were no online stores. People made do. We can too.

I went local last Friday to find a stainless steel wok, root beer, and a cheap chess board. I made multiple stops at the local stores, took me about an hour and a half. I found the root beer. The local cooking shop didn't have a stainless wok, they had sold the last one, could...

I agree with the sentiment, but Amazon is making most of their profit from web/data services (AWS). You'll have more impact completely disconnecting from the internet, social media, and all streaming and data services, and performing everything in person.

2
Exciting_Will6255

The majority of US Americans are self-absorbed and choose convenience every time. Also, there's been a huge anti-union propaganda train since the Reagan era so a good chunk of people think unions are bad.
