Amazon is monopolistic and anti-union; they don't deserve our business

People often forget local business owners are usually shitty right wingers who don't pay a good wage and treat their employees like shit. So we need to stop saying "buy local" as if it's a catch all. Most local businesses would be exactly like Amazon if they could.
Political affiliation doesn't determine how a business is ran. I've worked for many self described liberals and democrats that were scum bags
I'ma be honest, the better approach is probably anti-consumerism. At the end of the day every single company in this nation (US) is built off exploitation, and so it's probably better to use your money more efficiently. Buy what you need, reuse what you can, limit impulse buyi...
Not to mention there’s a megacorp supplying pretty much every “local” business. If not Amazon itself. Buy union, or buy less. Stop consuming what we don’t need to consume.
I've been going out of my way to try and buy from not Amazon... It is crazy how much shit still comes from Amazon when I use other websites.
I have been doing this it is so difficult to find some products. Or spending a lot more time at the store trying to find items.
The problem with that is that their main business are their servers. Kinda hard to do that local
Not that hard, we just allow the cloud monopoly without a second though most of the time and act helpless, while choosing the "easy" over learning and doing stuff on your own more often than not.
Exactly. Business like Amazon never watch the line go up or down and they never try to extract every penny. Amazon doesn't care. They certainly never ever try to bleed the stone dry like ultra profit motivated assholes so don't bother trying to protest them. Keep giving them m...
Problem is people don’t seem to have the backbone or conviction to follow through with this. They’ll be spouting anti billionaire shit while selecting 24 hour delivery. I personally haven’t used Amazon in probably a decade. Seemed hard at first but I guess my life is so unspec...
It's difficult because like the post title says, they have a monopoly. Even if you try ordering from company websites, they often push through Amazon sales.
Seriously, I'm reading these comments on a "progressive" sub and it's so depressing - like children "I want it and I want it now! Me me me"
People don’t seem to have the option sometimes if you are broke and busy. Amazon often has the cheapest option for the same product, also is the most convenient as you don’t have to do shit but click a button and wait for it to come. I know more than many as a previous Amazon ...
Amazon doesnt get most of its wealth from Amazon.com. It comes from their web service called AWS that pulls information from your site visits. Use Duckduckgo or another platform that blocks AWS.
And thousands of small businesses sell products through Amazon.
That's not what AWS does and duckduckgo doesn't block AWS. Reddit uses AWS. You'll be logging off now then, right?
You can starve AWS too (yes, ironic to post that on Reddit which uses AWS, but you can reduce time and what your engaging with) Cutting streaming and going back to physical media. Cut social media (Facebook, Twitch, Reddit, Pinterest, and LinkedIn) Ultimately with costs on...
Buying local is always the best option. Another approach is to look up the manufacturer of a product you find on Amazon and buy directly from their website instead. Platforms like Etsy or eBay are also great alternatives for online shopping. Some might disagree, but I’ve perso...
I live in Hawaii and sometimes the only way to get things is on Amazon. It can be really difficult to find specific items locally and most businesses just straight up don’t ship here if I try to order directly from them, but I can purchase through Amazon. I hate it, but 75% ...
The solution is also to buy from any independent business that is nont corporate where possible. We need more buy independent marketplaces that only sell non-corporate products. Also we need to stop working for corporations.
I live in MAGA land. Buying local also contributes to the problem.
Stock local, don't tell me you can order one in... I am desperate to support local businesses but also I need the stuff I am after. If I come in store and you don't have it, I will get it next day from Amazon. Every physical store which is basically an online shopping point wi...
This exactly. Don’t get me wrong I’m patient but say for instance when going to Barnes and noble I’m not going to pay $50 for a book when I can get it on Amazon for $25-$30. I’d LOVE to support local but businesses need to step up their game. Shit they don’t even price match.
Since quitting Amazon, I've re-learned how to live simply. So many of the items I thought were needs, really weren't. Growing up, there were no online stores. People made do. We can too.
It doesn't sound like you are desperate to support local business if you can't even handle a minor inconvenience 💀
I went local last Friday to find a stainless steel wok, root beer, and a cheap chess board. I made multiple stops at the local stores, took me about an hour and a half. I found the root beer. The local cooking shop didn't have a stainless wok, they had sold the last one, could...

Bezos won't starve no matter what... But yeah I get the message
I agree with the sentiment, but Amazon is making most of their profit from web/data services (AWS). You'll have more impact completely disconnecting from the internet, social media, and all streaming and data services, and performing everything in person.
he has enough money to outlast your boycott. his great great grandkids wont starve
European here, already avoiding Amazon like the plague. Other people and companies are looking for alternatives with the growing anti-USA sentiment.
Starve Bezos? C'mon, man. You could shut down Amazon tomorrow and he'd still keep making millions off the billions he already has.
How does Amazon get away with being so blatantly anti union?
The majority of US Americans are self-absorbed and choose convenience every time. Also, there's been a huge anti-union propaganda train since the Reagan era so a good chunk of people think unions are bad.
Yeah, but where are the "pro-union" retailers I can shop at instead?
I have been walking around more as its starting to warm up and holy shit the amount of amazon vans I see all over the place is insane, sometimes there will be three vans on one street all within visable distance from each other! And then I turn the corner and another one is on...
I recently got a 3d printer. I’d rather spend $22 for a roll of filament from a local store that buys from a local product than save a few dollars on Amazon.
Well if we stop allowing mega corporations to make the rules and laws about collective bargaining rights we all would be better off. Id personally feel BETTER giving Amazon my money if I knew the workers union doing the job were being taken care of with good wages and Healthca...
Buy Starve Local Bezos
or just tax the rich???
Ar this point let's just make sure he doesn't get any richer, because he'll never be less than hoading billions until he dies.
I’ve been one year without Amazon, and have only thought about it because of fall out. I’m not spending $100 to watch it
Buy local? What does that even mean in 2026? Good luck with that in most places.
FIGHT BOURGEOIS CAPITALISM BY SUPPORTING PETIT BOURGEOIS CAPITALISM AND PITTING LOCAL WORKERS AGAINST WORKERS IN OTHER AREAS!
I’ve been told by two different stores to buy from Amazon instead when their product was out of stock on the shelf. I was like wtf!!!! No it’s okay I’ll just come back another time?? tf
Serving time seeing my small town on reddit. Odd
its w ld how even trying to shop elsewhere still ends up with amazon smhi
Sincere question - for rural residents where should we shop? I needed to get my daughter a bathing suit and my options were Walmart, Target or Amazon. Any recommendations how to beat the system without completely fucking my wallet?
I stopped using Amazon the day Trump was 're-elected'. Please realise: no amount of voting you do at the polls comes close to matching the power of the votes you cast every day by giving these people money.
YES!!!
Or at least buy direct from the manufacturer where you can. Just got a new microcontroller development kit direct from TI.
If my local wasn’t crawling with scalpers and drop shippers maybe I’d shop there but they crushed all good will with their 300% mark ups
At least an American touched the package vs me buying direct from china.
Maybe we should we pay unemployed Americans to touch imported packages?
It's all the same if you're buying from some bourgeois. fucking think people
