Umm this recently fell out of my automobile..
Is this bad? How poor? I have a 2011 Honda Civic

Well you are also missing your front bumper. If you haven’t noticed
lmaoooooooo 💀💀💀
Look. It’s not nice to point out our differences.
The state OPs car is in is why my good friend from Germany was like "wtf, they let people drive these cars?" When he visited. In Deutschland, they have rules that cars actually have to be in good working order without massive dents, rust, parts falling off or missing, lights s...
That is just your resonator. It's designed to quiet down your intake induction noise. Like a muffler on the exhaust. It's absolutely fine to run without it. If you think your intake sounds too loud (some people actually like the sound) then replace it. Else, send it.
This but make sure you plug the new hole in your intake because usually the resonator is downstream of the air filter -> dirt in your cylinders. Not sure about the MAF
Usually supported and hidden by parts that...are no longer there.
This is the real answer.
It’s obviously been dragging for a while.
Could have been rushing
how can you be surprised about shit falling out of the front of your car when youre missing the front of your car? its part of your airbox assembly, not a crucial part of the airbox assembly and probably less of a concern than your lack of front bumper. dont surprised pikach...

Correction, it is THE air box assembly, not just a part of it. I'm honestly as impressed as I am curious.
That thing didn’t just fall off. You can see the big ball of ground up melted plastic. That shit was dragging down the road.
That's from the tire lol, it looks like a curved plane. Must have been noisy AF before it fell off.
The front fell off.
Is that typical?
If the car doesnt want it, its not needed
Add it to the list of other things that have fallen off
It's just your resonator for air filter intake assembly. It may affect how the engine runs if you have a mass air sensor next to the air filter. Making the engine run too lean. If there isn't a MAF sensor there and it's closer to the engine, it'll run fine. #However you nee...
Oh man I miss driving shit boxes in the US. It's tough being a car guy in Germany 🫤
I know, right? A car needing to be _complete and in good working order_ is such a drag...
Please tell me this is Ohio lol. And yes your air box fell off...along with your bumper
It’s Louisiana but I’m from Florida lmao..
That's how Hondas reproduce soon it will grow into a little Power Wheels.
Imagine the racket that thing made dragging on the ground before it fell off
Classic weight reduction, the seasons are changing and your car is losing its winter weight
They do that… it common in Hondas
If you have chunks of your car falling out like that... makes me wonder what else is ready to fall out.
I know :////
So many people are getting WAY too upset about the lack of bumper cover. What if OP got into an accident and is just saving up for one? You guys need to relax, it’s not that serious lol
Your airbox decided to follow your bumpers decision to defect from your car.
How do you let it get this bad
Is that a Johnson rod?
Almost thought this was a r/askashittymechanic post
Cold air intake assembly for the air intake to the motor or the heater vent intake
How?
That piece on ground is your air box, just a lil important considering it filters air and foreign materials to not get into engine. Besides that your front clip bumper is missing. But thats just cosmetic. Can't play bumper cars no more Edit: it filters air, and keeps out forei...
It’s just a resonator, it connects to the intake of the air box.
It’s your airbox resonator.
I just wanna know how this actually happened. Like yeah, civics do have a rather spacey engine bay but there’s still some serious finagling that’s gotta happen for it to FALL OUT and drag under the car
Naw, thats been falling out for a while.
You obviously don't care about your car so why does it matter
Not good.
That's methed up

Part of the airbox but kinda benign. Mostly for sound muffling and water resistance but I think that ship has sailed for you already.
I think there would be a few signs before that happened
Intake resonator, it quiets down the intake. Its not necessary, I removed mine on purpose for a little extra noise. It seems like you have some other issues going on you might want to fix though.
So, you know that dragging sound you've been hearing every time you drive for the last while? Yeah. This is that dragging sound. Part of your airbox. Not necessary for driving, but indicator of much, much more serious issues going on in your engine bay
Ain no way you didn’t hear rubbing noises and ignore it
You obviously dont care about your car so why are you pretending you do now all of a sudden?
If you have parts of your vehicle literally falling off, you need to take it in for service. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it's likely been neglected to the point that you could potentially have a massive repair bill (so absolutely do your research and find a good indep...
Intake resonator or air filter housing. Either way, it's gonna sound cooler now (and suck in dust)
At first I thought this was r/AskAShittyMechanic
Thanks for posting on /r/MechanicAdvice! This is just a reminder to review the [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/about/rules/). Rremember to please post the year/make/model of the vehicle you are working on. **If this post is about bodywork, accident damage, pai...
Damn, that’s crazy
Had the same car. Mine fell off too. It was fine. You and your car will be fine
You had the same car? Did you fix it before selling it to OP?
That's the airbox that houses the air filter and feeds the filtered air into the throttle. It looks like part of it broke off, so you would have to replace that half before reinstalling. Also, check the mounting points, which could be the reason it fell off.
Dude that's your air intake filter housing....... How?
It got smart with him, so he slapped the shit out of it.
Thats the cold air intake box. It does what it says brings cold air into the engine and helps prevent hydro lock. Edit: Don’t look like it was protecting much with a hole in it
Do you even know what hydro lock is? Haha That's when you get liquid in the cylinders, say from like a massive dose of coolant. Liquid doesn't compress, therefore physically locking up the engine.
Eh not important
Looks like you crashed and the air filter casing was being destroyed by your tyre.
You’ll need a new one and make sure you have fasteners/the holes for the fasteners are intact
When you are financially able to, look up a local pick n pull and go get a new bumper cover - it should be quite cheap and will be easy to unclip from the old car and clip onto yours It doesn't do anything mechanically speaking but it looks like without the bumper cover there...
Airbox. Please reattach...
U don’t need it
You're good. Carry on.
> I have *most of* a 2011 Honda Civic FTFY. As others have said, that’s a part of your air intake that feeds air to the engine to run. It’s ok to go without it, but you do run the risk of getting foreign objects into the airbox to be caught by the filter. It looks like...
Pretty sure that's your air intake resonator. So one, not having it is already not good....it just falling out... definitely not good and kinda makes the whole situation seem that much worse lol.
Get a new airbox and bumper.
Well shit.... that can't be good.
Looks like it wasn’t the first thing…
Lol time for a cold air intake. The car has decided.
Impossible, but nice story bro
It looks like your air box for your intake . I would pop your hood and see if you have the other half still with the filter and piece that connects to your intake . If you do then don’t worry about it
Air box peaced out of that joint
Mmmmmmmmm happens..
Oh no put it back in
It was extra. You don't need it
Looks like he vomited his heart, because you don't love him anymore :(.
+8 hp -durability
Someone removed the two large duct clamps to make it easy for cleaner to fall off…it could easily have injured someone
Put it back

You'll be right mate, might just sound a little better
The good news is that it’s a Honda civic
Looks like thy air filter is due for replacement.
Cold air intake is coming right up
Couple zip ties and a Bobby pin would fix that right up.
Well, where did you think the new 2026 Honda Civics come from? 🤰
Just let it fall in again dude
Oh shit
Extra parts don't worry about it
That's your air intake assembly. Why it would fly out like that is for sure the mystery. You can go get some piping and make your own cold air kit now and hear the moan when it is floored.
Looks like the clips broke that hold it to the car and the wheel ground a hole in the corner of it
Judging by the condition of it, it had a collision. No shot it just fell off randomly.
That is not an "intake assembly" - That would be bolted to the top of the engine. That is an intake resonator -- Just a glorified muffler that pre meters air before the air box.
Just pop the hood and place it in there. Any where is fine as long as it’s under the hood
Your engine
It ain't got no gas in it
No it did not. For that to just fall out. U have had to make atleast multiple steps in rapid unsgedualed dissasembly for it to fall apart.

You would think so but this is probably the 10th post I have seen here of this exact part falling out of a Honda. Some don’t even have visible damage to the bumper.
I swear it just fell out.. and my bumper before that (no wreks) I live in New Orleans tho i think all the pot holes must of contributed
A mechanic is gonna tell you that you need a new one. It's very important that you don't listen to them. Just add an extra quart of oil to the engine, sunflower oil if you can find it.
Dont stare at it, its gonna get pissed, just put it back where it came from
Congrats, its a boy
Is this a shitpost?
Weight reduction!! lol no. You want that. That’s your air filter box. You need that so your car don’t breath in something it shouldn’t( not air) and ruin your engine
This might seem cruel, but after a tough day, I busted out laughing at your picture! Sorry if that offends, but the laugh did me good!
Thats the flux capacitor... thats what makes time travel possible!!
Yup and I bet you told your spouse “I swear I wasn’t cheating!! I just slipped tripped and fell on his d/k”
I’m afraid I have to tell you that your car has stage 4 lung cancer
You can glue it back, right?
You don’t need it. Your gas mileage will improve from the weight savings
Bro you been driving without an air filter by the looks of it but it’s a civic so just send it
It's just a back up bong
It's your air filter, it's an important part it keeps the dirt and dust floating around in the air out of your engine so it can't scratch up the valves and cylinder walls and cause damage to the pistons and rings and get into the oil and move on to your camshaft and head to da...
Put it back or you’re gonna suck a rock into the tube it goes on and completely wreck the motor.
Put it back? Tf?
You're gonna need a new muffler bearing, for sure.
Maybe let's not troll people trying to ask for help. There are other subs for that.
Is that what this is? A muffler bearing? Can I drive a day or two without it?
